It has been six years since the last release of Grand Theft Auto, but it doesn’t appear that there will be much more of a wait for keen gamers. It has been earmarked as one of the most important games of our time, with The Telegraph also calling it one of the most successful ever British exports.
Up to this point, the franchise has sold over 280 million copies worldwide, and it comes in fourth in terms of the most successful franchises of all-time. The popularity of it is highlighted by the fact that the titles above it include Pokemon, Tetris and Mario. But, when can we expect a sixth title to be hitting the shelves? And what do we know about the release at this very early stage?
Fans Beginning To Notice Trends
While fans are yet to know of a release date, there is a feeling that any new release could centre around the release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox X next year. But, there have been a number of leaks that have been noticed by fans, with one of them centring around the possible destination of the setting for the next instalment.
Many fans already believe that the next title could be based on numerous continents. There was a recent update on the previous release, with South America being one of the destinations that players can explore. Not only this, but fans also believe that the game will be set around multiple time periods too due to the hints being dropped by Rockstar.
The leak which has got fans talking about this was the introduction of a fictionalised Colombia. Players have hinted that this could be a possible start of GTA 6, before returning a familiar location in the United States.
Could They Be To Throw Fans Off?
If the game was to move into a different continent, then it would be a completely different step from anything it has done previously. Fans are already growing weary of the reports that they fear that this may be used to throw fans off. Rockstar may be creating hints, before then releasing something completely out of the left field.
Of course, the game hasn’t even confirmed that it is in development at this point so fans should take any news with a pinch of salt. It could be at least another two years before we see the sixth instalment released, which would undoubtedly be met with disdain by gamers.
However, it is important to remember that fans may have to wait longer if they want to experience something truly groundbreaking, and that is something that Rockstar have achieved consistently with this game.
