Christmas Day is fast approaching, and that means that we are merely days away from getting a host of new games titles to spend the hours enjoying. This time of year is always one that the biggest gaming companies target as their most lucrative time of the year, but which titles are we expecting to sell big over the festive period?
Next year will be a completely different ball game when the newest PlayStation is released, but this Christmas will focus purely on the game that could be the biggest selling title. But what could that game be?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
It was announced on Sunday evening that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was officially the number one title in the United Kingdom. It has been successful with gamers since it was released, but this week it saw a 42% spike in popularity. It managed to overcome the challenge of EA’s FIFA, which also grew in sales over the past seven days.
The battle between the two for Christmas number one has been a recurring element that gamers keep an eye on. COD has topped that list on nine occasions now, compared to the eight that have been achieved by FIFA. Fans have welcomed the most recent release of COD, with many already loving the new developments that have been made. The sales are up too from its Black Ops 4 title from last year.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Also in the top five was Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. It was placed in third spot behind FIFA and COD, with sales increasing by 23% on the final week. Much of that burst could have been down to the fact that the final instalment of the Star Wars trilogy was released in cinemas last week, with millions around the world flocking into the big screen to see how the incredible story ends. Regardless, this title is a fun game for those that love the series, and it would make for an excellent Christmas present.
Crash Team Racing
There isn’t any better way to rediscover your youth than spending a few days on Christmas Day taking a step back and playing Crash Team Racing. The iconic character have enjoyed a resurgence this year, and it is a perfect title for the whole family with the multi-player games offering various chances for the whole family to get involved in the competitive Christmas sprit. Sales were good in the final week for this title as it sat in tenth spot. Just one place below the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy.
If you aren’t looking for a new game but still want to get your nostalgic fix, then the PS Classic could be a wonderful gift for a gamer. It may not have been given the warmest reception since it was released, but the library is extensive. There are games such as Syphon Filter, Final Fantasy 7 and Destruction Derby. There are hours of fun to be had on the console, and it will take you back to why you fell in love with gaming in the first place.
